Home cleaning, organization and lifestyle tips

Hi! My name is Evgeny, I’m 48 years old, and I live in Zaporizhzhia. By education, I am a physiotherapist. Yes, that’s right – the kind of person who knows everything about helping you get back on your feet after an injury, curing a bad back, or helping rehabilitate a joint after a fracture. But, as you might have guessed, I’m now doing something a little different – I treat… homes.
How Did a Doctor End Up in Housekeeping?
It all started when, like any normal person, I constantly faced everyday problems. Coffee would spill on a light shirt (and even on my passport – more on that later), the refrigerator would start to smell as if something had taken up residence there, and the washing machine would suddenly stop spinning. I’d go online for advice, and each time I’d come across either general phrases or recipes with ingredients that were impossible to find.
And then it hit me: I’m a physiotherapist. I’m used to treating people holistically – from the symptom to the cause. Why not apply the same approach to the home? Not just “what to clean it with,” but “why did this happen in the first place and how can we make sure it doesn’t happen again?” That’s how the idea for the blog was born.
To be honest, I get flustered in front of the camera. I trip over my words, my hands take on a life of their own. So I chose a different format – text. I write the way I’d talk to a friend over a cup of coffee (coffee, by the way, I now drink very carefully, far away from any documents).
Personal Experience and Epic Fails
They say you learn from your mistakes. I learned from mine, and believe me, as a teacher, I’m a real sadist. The most vivid incident happened the day before I was flying abroad. I was calmly drinking my americano, leafing through some documents, and… with one swift motion, I sent half a cup of coffee straight onto my passport. Can you imagine? The little red book, a white page, a brown stain. I started rubbing, panicked, rubbed even harder… and the passport became unreadable. Anyway, I eventually got it replaced, but I won morally. And that’s exactly when I understood: you must never rub a fresh stain! Only blot.
Since then, I test all my tips on myself. Baking soda, vinegar, citric acid – they’re my best friends. I also know what happens if you bleach a colored t-shirt with hydrogen peroxide (spoiler: it now lives at the dacha and serves as a dust rag). That’s why in all my articles, I write: “Test this on an inconspicuous area first!”
Why Five Languages?
At first, I only wrote in Russian. Then I thought: household problems are the same everywhere. Germans also have burnt potatoes, Mexicans have smelly shoes, and Turks, I’m sure, also look for ways to clean a pan after frying eggs. Why not share the experience with everyone?
Now the site is translated into five languages: English, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic, and of course, Russian. Arabic, let me tell you, is a whole different story. The text is read from right to left, and if you mess up the layout, the whole design falls apart. Turkish… well, I’m at the “I can read signs” level, but I get native speakers for the articles. Can’t do it without them.
What Do I Write About?
The site already has over 200 articles. I try to cover everything a person encounters at home:
- Cleaning and tidiness;
- Laundry and clothing care;
- Kitchen and food storage;
- Home appliances (how not to ruin them);
- Space organization (so you can actually find socks in the closet);
- Life hacks for the home;
- Plants and garden;
- Repairs and tools;
- Pets (yes, there are articles about cats too);
- Holidays and decor;
- Health and care (this is where my medical past sometimes wakes up);
- Ecology and conscious consumption.
I test every topic on myself. Or on someone I know who agreed to be a guinea pig. If a tip doesn’t work, it doesn’t get on the site.
Future Plans
Upcoming new sections – I’m planning to cover repairs and construction. Lots of interesting topic requests. So, if you have experience laying tiles or hanging wallpaper, write to me – we’ll share!
Favorite Routine
You know what my favorite household routine is? Making the bed. It’s such a small ritual that immediately makes the morning feel meaningful. And generally, doctors love order. I guess it’s a professional thing.
Well, now you know a little more about me. If you have any questions, write them in the comments.
Best regards,
Evgeny, creator of homenews.blog
